Piatra Mare Mountains – 7 Ladders Canyon

1 Day

Piatra Mare Mountains and Postavaru Mountains, known together as Timisului Mountains or Barsei Mountains, are located within Carpathians’ Bend, in the southern part of the large hollow of Brasov. They are well characterized through the diversity of their relief, which reflects diversified geological structure. Within these mountains, with elevetions under 1850m (Postavaru Peak – 1799m; Piatra Mare Peak – 1843m), we’ll find a seamless combination of high peaks and jagged ridges, rounded hills, picturesque hollows, gorges and steep slopes with spectacular microforms.

The 7 Ladders Canyon is considered to be one of the main tourist attractions from the Piatra Mare massif. It has been carved in Jurassic limestone and we can see a chain of wonderful waterfalls; in order to cross the canyon, we’ll have to climb up seven ladders, the tallest being 35 metres (115 ft) high. Some of these ladders are linked by metal platforms making the access easier and safer.
