Circuit Moieciu de Sus-Vf. Bucșa-Șaua Strunga-vf. Bătrâna

The circuit leading us from Moieciu de Sus village, to Bucșa Peak, and further to Strunga Saddle and Bătrâna Peak, is another spectacular path along the western side of Bucegi Mountains. The views that opens all around, once we reach the alpine area, are very rewarding.

Equipment:

Essentials

• Day pack (25 – 35l) with waterproof liner
• Drink bottle – 1 to 2 litre
• Packed lunch and snacks – pack more than you think you’ll need
• Extra high energy snack food
• Fully charged mobile phone (and, optional, a light powerbank)
• Basic first aid kit including hand sanitiser
• Personal medication, (eg antihistamines, asthma medication, etc)
• Extra base layer and socks
• Rubbish bag
• Sunscreen and insect repellent
• Head torch/torch and spare batteries
• Survival blanket to keep you warm in an emergency
• Whistle in case your split up or need help

Other stuff (optional, but recommended)

• Trekking poles (very useful)
• Buff/Neck gaiter (for protection of your neck)
• Ultralight chair or sit pad
• Basic repair kit
• Multi-tool or pocket knife
• Bear Spray

Clothing

Conditions can change so be prepared:

• Hiking boots with good ankle support and grip, or other sturdy footwear
• Hiking socks in polypropylene or wool
• Base layer: top and leggings in polypropylene/wool, quick dry shorts or pants
• Mid layer: long sleeved top in wool or polar fleece – wear or pack depending on the weather
• Exterior layer
  • wind and water-proof jacket with hood – wear or pack depending on the weather
  • waterproof over trousers, optional, but very recommended

• Gloves in polypropylene/wool – wear or pack
• Sun hat or warm beanie – pack one and wear the other
• Sunglasses – wear or pack
