Northern Ridge of Piatra Craiului Mountains

Hiking the Northern Ridge of Piatra Craiului Mountains is, for sure, one of the most popular tours. We will hike the ridge in one day, but we’ll need other 2 days for approaching and leaving the area. This tour is designed for fit trekkers who enjoy challenges, reaching the highest peak in the area (Piscul Baciului-2238m) and traversing some technical passages. Previous training and good fitness level is mandatory to complete the entire route. Because of the route profile, we’ll have to complete the tour till the end of the day.

KEY INFORMATION:

  • Group Size: 2-6 people
  • Specialty Category: Hiking&Trekking
  • Difficulty: T3 – Challenging Hiking
  • Season: June-October

Day 1
Brasov-Zarnesti-Crapaturii Valley-Curmatura mountain hut

In the morning, I will pick you up from your accommodation or other place that must be mentioned in advance, and we'll drive to the small town of Zarnesti. Once arrived here, we'll follow the trail through Crapaturii Valley that will lead us to Curmatura mountain hut (full description of this route can be found here). In the afternoon, we'll have the final preparation for the ridge day; dinner and accommodation will be provided at Curmatura mountain hut.

Day 2
Curmatura mountain hut-Turnu Peak (1923m)-Ascutit Peak (2150m)-Piscul Baciului Peak (2238m)-La Table-Magura village

Early in the morning, we'll leave the hut and we'll start our ascent to the ridge. Once arrived in the ridge, during the clear days, we'll enjoy the all around panoramas. Walking the ridge will be challenging and demanding; it will request all our attention as long as falling is not an option. We will have to pass some points by scrambling (not technical - climbing equipment is not necessary). After reaching the highest summit of Piatra Craiului Mountains (Piscul Baciului-2238m), we'll descent to Pestera village (via Grindu refuge, La Table, Joaca Saddle), where we'll enjoy a tasty dinner and well deserved rest.

Day 3
Magura village-Fantana lui Botorog-Bran village-Brasov

After breakfast we'll walk along the beautiful picturesque villages of Pestera and Magura and we'll complete our tour near Fantana lui Botorog (Botorog's Well) where we will meet our driver for the transfer to Bran and back to Brasov. On request, it is possible to descend to Moeciu de Jos village or Bran village.
