{"id":1000,"date":"2018-11-15T12:50:01","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T10:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mountainleader.ro\/?post_type=trip&#038;p=1000"},"modified":"2025-11-03T11:56:45","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T09:56:45","slug":"piatra-mare-mountains","status":"publish","type":"trip","link":"https:\/\/mountainleader.ro\/ro\/trip\/piatra-mare-mountains\/","title":{"rendered":"Mun\u021bii Piatra Mare - Canionul 7 Sc\u0103ri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Piatra Mare Mountains and Postavaru Mountains, known together as Timisului Mountains or Barsei Mountains, are located within Carpathians\u2019 Bend, in the southern part of the large hollow of Brasov. They are well characterized through the diversity of their relief, which reflects diversified geological structure. Within these mountains, with elevetions under 1850m (Postavaru Peak \u2013 1799m; Piatra Mare Peak \u2013 1843m), we\u2019ll find a seamless combination of high peaks and jagged ridges, rounded hills, picturesque hollows, gorges and steep slopes with spectacular microforms.<\/p>\n<p>Sistemul <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seven_Ladders_Canyon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">7 Ladders Canyon<\/a> is considered to be one of the main\u00a0tourist attractions\u00a0from the\u00a0Piatra Mare\u00a0massif. It\u00a0has been carved in Jurassic\u00a0limestone\u00a0and we can see a chain of wonderful waterfalls; in order to cross the canyon, we&#8217;ll have to climb up seven\u00a0ladders, the tallest being 35 metres (115\u00a0ft) high. Some of these ladders are linked by metal platforms making the access easier and safer.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning I will meet you in car park located near the old Dambul Morii hut (30 minutes driving from Brasov), the starting point of our trip.<\/p>\n<p>From here we\u2019ll walk the road following Sipoaia Valley; at the very beginning we\u2019ll be surounded by large green meadows, but soon our track squezees through the forest revealing scenical views, accompanied by the water sound. After leaving on the left the track who leads the mountaineers to Ursului Gulch, our route becomes harder warning us about the approaching of 7 Ladders Canyon.<\/p>\n<p>Once arrived here, we\u2019ll be just breathless. The canion is 160m long and it has a difference of elevation of 58m. First ladder is 8m high, followed by other 6; the longest ladder has 35m. The steel ladders contrast with the limestone walls and the clear water which falls without obstacles. The third ladder is the most spectacular one, both through its length and the waterfall which flows really close, splashing us a little bit.<br \/>\nEscaped from the bottleneck of the canyon, we\u2019ll continue our way to Piatra Mare mountain hut, located at an elevation of 1630m in Sura de Piatra Glade, where we\u2019ll stop to have our lunch. The views who surround us make any comment needless. During the clear days we\u2019ll have the opportunity to admire Piatra Mare Peak, Timisului and Garcinului valleys which delimit the massif on Western and Eastern sides and we\u2019ll watch further to Brasov and Tara Barsei.<\/p>\n<p>For returning, we\u2019ll choose an easier track, known as Drumul Principal, who will lead us downhill without serious efforts. It runs mainly through the forest escaping from time to time in small open glades who enjoy our eyes.
