As Fodor’s Travel says, it is Morocco’s most intoxicating city; it is a city that travelers either hate or love. Ever since Morocco’s “Jewel of the South” became a trading and resting place on the ancient caravan routes from Timbuktu, the city has barely paused for breath. We will spend here two nights, that will be dedicated to exploration: Jemaa el Fnaa (UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity), the souks (traditional markets), the old palaces (Bahia and El Badi), Jardin Majorelle, are only few objectives included in our agenda.

The main part of the trip is planned in the High Atlas Mountains. We will start (and complete) our tour in the small village of Imlil; because we’ll hike at very high altitudes (above 3000m) proper acclimatization is mandatory. Before reaching Toubkal Summit we’ll spend some time at intermediate levels to be sure that everything will be fine. During the preparatory stage we will have the opportunity to visit some remote Berber villages and to understand better the local way of life.

Also, for better preparation and for ”bagging” another summit over 4000 meters, we will climb the Ouanoukrim Mountain. It is a double summit big mountain: South Timesguida (4.089 m) and North Ras n’Ouanoukrim (4.083 m) separated by a little col (3.968 m). Timesguida is the 2nd highest mountain in the region and Ras (3rd). From the top, we will enjoy excellent views of Toubkal chain and south across pre-Atlas and Sahara (weather permitting).

The big prize, summit of Toubkal stands firm at 4167m above sea level and commands superb views of the High Atlas Mountains. Having plenty of time for the ascent, we will climb it in the right pace, allowing enough time for taking photos and admiring the sceneries.

After completing our trek, and going back to Imlil, we will be ready for relaxation on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It will be a major change.

Essaouira is an exceptional example of a late-18th-century fortified town, built according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture in a North African context.
